The musical lineup for Sónar 2024 is now complete. This year, the festival is tuned to the frequency of now with a programme of dance music icons, innovators from all eras, and radical performances. Part of the programme will also be dedicated to how widespread use of Artificial Intelligence is shaping the present and future of the creative industries.

Sónar Week: when Barcelona becomes the global capital of electronic music
For Sónar Week, Barcelona becomes the centre of the world for electronic music and cultural innovation. As well as Sónar by Day, Sónar by Night and Sónar+D, there’s also four days of OFFSónar, located in Poble Espanyol on Montjuïc.
OFFSónar maintains its commitment to events focused on record labels, with top DJs, local talent and the most attractive clubbing experiences on the international scene. From Thursday to Sunday, there’ll be parties hosted by Brunch Electronik, X, Solid Grooves, Keinemusik and FUSE London, with one event still to be announced for Sunday. Find out more here.
The biggest names in electronic music at Sónar by Night
Sónar by Night features a list of names who’ve helped electronic music take the world by storm over the past decades. Highlights from today’s announcement include veterans Paul Kalkbrenner, Danny Tenaglia and a brand-new show from Richie Hawtin, as well as contemporary classics like Adriatique, VTSS, Anetha, and Jennifer Cardini b2b HAAi.
Also announced today are Soto Asa, local collective BLEX and TAYHANA presents Club Latinx, amongst others. They join the recently added Air (playing ‘Moon Safari’ in full) and other previously announced artists including Kaytranada, Jessie Ware, Vince Staples, Charlotte de Witte presents ‘Overdrive’, Ben Böhmer live, Floating Points, Reinier Zonneveld live, Kerri Chandler, The Martinez Brothers, Héctor Oaks b2b Partiboi69, and Marlon Hoffstadt aka DJ Daddy Trance.
Three icons will soundtrack the sunset at Sónar by Day
Sunsets over SonarVillage by Estrella Damm will be soundtracked by a riotous back-to-back from Kittin and David Funk, as well as the long-awaited return of Laurent Garnier to the stage. Both acts join the already announced Folamour, who’s preparing a new audiovisual show. Also added to the Sónar by Day lineup today are live sets from Kabeaushé and Mainline Magic Orchestra and a hybrid set from Olof Dreijer and percussionist Diva Cruz.
Kianí del Valle Performance Group presents a new show, ‘Cortex’, together with Hamill Industries & Tayhana joining other radical performances by TOMMY CASH, VMO a.k.a. Violent Magic Orchestra, and Blackhaine.
They all join live performances from Surgeon & Speedy J, Loraine James, Ela Minus, EMPTYSET, Toya Delazy, and yunè pinku, plus DJ sets from Stacey Hotwaxx Hale b2b DJ Paulette, Coco Em, moktar, horsegiirL and Surusinghe.
SonarLab x Printworks and SonarPark by DICE: new friends meet old ones
Sónar also unveils a new collaboration with Printworks London, SonarLab x Printworks, which brings the much-missed UK venue to Spain for the first time. With a brand new stage build, the collaboration will bring the essence of Printworks, famed for its on-point curation and advanced AV production, to Sónar by Night on 14th and 15th June.
SonarLab x Printworks will host live sets from Octave One, Sepehr, KI/KI, Cinthie and CASISDEAD plus some of the hottest DJs around: DJ Flight & MC Chickaboo, Eliza Rose b2b Dan Shake b2b Sally C, salute, Marie Montexier b2b Mor Elian, C.FRIM b2b BAMBII, JASSS, Swoose, and TNTC.
SonarPark by DICE returns again this year, paying tribute to the increasingly wide range of styles and ideas that make up global club culture. Blck Mamba, Meritxell de Soto and ABHIR are added to the lineup today, joining already announced artists Judeline, TORO Collective, Skin On Skin, ¥ØU$UK€ ¥UK1MAT$U, Akazie, Marie Davidson, Dyce, AMORE, Jehia, Slim Soledad, DJ Gigola, DJ Fucci, Taahliah, and SHYBOI.
AI & Music powered by S+T+ARTS: a festival within a festival
The brand new AI & Music programme powered by S+T+ARTS, an initiative of the European Commission, includes concerts, conferences, and projects that explore the relationship between Artificial Intelligence and Music. Added to the programme today are performances by Sevdaliza, 𝔥𝔢𝔵𝔬𝔯𝔠𝔦𝔰𝔪𝔬𝔰, and Myriam Bleau & Nien Tzu Weng. It will also include the already announced performance of ‘Models’ by Lee Gamble and Candela Capitán, co-produced together with the Polish festival Unsound.
The AI & Music programme also includes the open forum ‘We Are The Music Makers’, with Thor Magnusson (Intelligent Instruments Lab), Sergi Jordà (UPF, Reactable), Anna Xambó (QMUL C4DM), Magda Polo (UB), and Moisés Horta aka 𝔥𝔢𝔵𝔬𝔯𝔠𝔦𝔰𝔪𝔬𝔰. Peter Kirn will lead an ‘AI Performance Playground’ hacklab: an open call for participation will be announced soon. Plus there’ll be two masterclasses that explore how artists are integrating AI into their practice, courtesy of Nicole L’Huillier and Marta Verde. And finally, Project Area will include a selection of projects covering AI and music, with more details to be announced soon.
Today, Sónar also announces its participation in TIMES (The Independent Movement for Electronic Scenes), a cooperation between 10 European festivals, co-funded by the European Union, and the successor to the We Are Europe project (2015-2022). Sónar 2024 will feature a series of performances co-curated with Berlin Atonal, Nuits Sonores, and Reworks. More information on the project will be announced soon.
Sónar+D 2024: examining the future of the creative industries
This year Sónar+D features Sasha Costanza-Chock, who’ll deliver an AV talk presented by SEIDOR, advocating for more inclusive design principles for technology. Also announced today is ‘Abogamer’ Micaela Mantegna, who’ll unravel the puzzle of ethics and intellectual property in videogames and the metaverse.
Sónar+D 2024 will also bring together leading names in immersive art and performance to analyse the new frontiers being opened up in this growing sector, with representatives from Superblue in Miami, Monom in Berlín, Oboria Digital de Zaragoza (The Sphere, Las Vegas), and Moment Factory in Montreal.
In addition, starting on Tuesday 11th June, the 2nd edition of +RAIN Film Festival, an international film festival for cinema made with AI, will be held. Co-organised with the UPF, it will explore how this new technology is shaping current cinematic narratives.
