Reel-to-reel tapes, renowned for their high audio quality (and temperamental nature) were first used by the likes of David Morales and Frankie Knuckles. At Sónar by Night this year, in tribute to these pioneers, Kerri Chandler will bring his collection of tapes to the stage, for a 100% reel-to-reel session, an experience he’s previously described as “like juggling with knives”. An innovator and a legend in his own right, who’s influenced a whole generation of artists from The Martinez Brothers (who he’ll share a stage with at Sónar 2024) to Seth Troxler. “The Stevie Wonder of House” has long been renowned for his fluid, precise mixing, with a reputation for marathon sessions of house, soul, jazz, funk and disco, including live keyboards, vocals and loops. ‘Reel-2-Reel’ live will be yet another demonstration of his extraordinary technical skill and musical talent.
