Michel Amato has always preferred the shadows. Yet, in three decades as The Hacker, he’s become an unrivalled authority on the music that caused a revolution on European dancefloors in the 1980s.
On SonarMix 075, he pays homage to his influences, “mixing old and new music, classics, and unreleased tracks”, and exploring the grey zones “somewhere between electro, new wave, and acid house” as you’ll typically hear in his sets. There’s a special mention for a 1964 recording by BBC Radiophonic Workshop pioneer Delia Derbyshire that “clearly paved the way for electronic music”, and a wink to Cabaret Voltaire, who’ll be warming up for at Sónar 2026, with an unreleased edit “The Messenger” featuring Stephen Mallinder.
