Clear your diary, and make a reservation with Le Motel for the next 60 minutes. For SonarMix 062, the Belgian artist takes us from ‘the bottom of the seabed’ to ‘early summer light’ with a shimmering, shifting session that travels through his wide open world of sound. It’s a mix only he could put together: from aquatic dubs through to psychedelic techno, UK garage with a latin twist, before ending with a slice of hazy summer pop that reminds him of ‘beautiful summer memories’.
The producer and DJ - real name Fabien Leclercq - has undergone quite a journey (or more accurately, journeys, plural) since he first started out over a decade ago as a footwork-obsessed producer. These days he rarely hits 160 on the bpm counter, but what he now lacks in velocity, he makes up for in variety. Flicking through his discography, you’re just as likely to find a gorgeous document of a Vietnamese roadtrip as you are a grime-y collaboration with Nigerian MC Magugu.
SonarMix 062 offers tantalising glimpses of the places - both real and imaginary - that he’s visited over recent years, from Vietnam to Venezuela. If you want the full experience, book yourself in for his set at Sónar by Day this June. We hope that you enjoy your stay.
