When we started SonarMix, one of our goals was to show that Barcelona has artists whose quality rivals their more famous colleagues in London or Berlin (or anywhere else you’d care to name). SonarMix 058 comes courtesy of Catalan producer and DJ oma totem, but if we told you his heady mix of dubby basslines, acid-washed ragga cuts, and tripped-out breaks was by a hotly-tipped artist from Bristol or Leeds we bet you’d believe us.
The artist known to his friends as Ignasi Sadurni is something of a unicorn, a still-young scene stalwart who’s both an established DJ and maturing producer (as well as label manager for John Talabot’s label Hivern Discs). Here he channels both youthful energy and veteran savvy, with a selection of “relatively new dance music” that moves from kaleidoscopic breaks and bass-powered techno to third-eye-opening prog house, closing with a yet-to-be revealed collaborative project that he’s been working on for “quite some time”. If it doesn’t convince you to come check him out at Sónar by Night on Saturday 14th June, we don’t know what will.
