When is code a work of art, and when is software a sculpture? For Sarah Friend, technology and art are two sides of the same coin. Her work has been exhibited at galleries ranging from MoMA in New York to the Centre Pompidou in Paris, and explores how psychology and human behaviour are interacting with technology to shape our identities and behaviours both inside and outside the digital sphere. An early adopter of blockchain technology, she’s involved in various initiatives, from redistributional cryptocurrencies to DAOs designed to make arts funding more transparent. At Sónar+D, she’ll draw on her experiences with the latter, explaining how human behaviour and psychology shapes decision-making processes within Decentralized Autonomous Organizations (DAOs).
