For years we’ve known her as one third of The xx and as an understated songwriter. But on her own, Romy has found another way to express herself: more expansive, more danceable, more luminous, without losing her unmistakable sensitivity.

Her debut album, Mid Air, was celebrated for its joyful exploration of queer relationships, somewhere between dancefloor energy and personal reflection, and became a landmark moment for queer visibility in pop. Along the way, she has collaborated with names such as Fred again.., Madonna and Kylie Minogue, and established herself as a DJ, with sets that draw on the history of queer club culture and move between house and trance.

As The xx return after an eight-year hiatus, Romy makes her Sónar debut with one of her magical DJ sets, where music remains a shared and inclusive space.
