Whether she’s playing afro house, amapiano, baile funk, gqom, or kuduro, the Barcelona DJ has one goal: working the crowd into a sweat
When looking for a name for her latest series of mixes, Spanish DJ NAGUIYAMI channelled her Japanese ancestry. Asekaki odori, which translates literally to ‘the sweat dance’, is the concept she came up with for these sessions, which connect different genres and styles from the global South: the smooth grooves of afro house and amapiano, the wild rhythms of kuduro, the intensity of baile funk and gqom. Aged just 26, she’s already an expert at working the crowd into a sweat, using her own homemade edits to deadly effect. Come hear her raise the temperature at Sónar by Night this year.
