Perfect for…

Anyone who wants to understand the experiences of Black trans communities from a firsthand perspective, anyone interested in participative art experiences

Why’s it interesting?

Using interactivity and techniques borrowed from video game design, UK artist Danielle Braithwaite-Shirley submerges participants in her world, placing the audience in the driving seat.

Her meteoric ascent as an artist has seen her work exhibited everywhere from Berghain to Fundació Miro, inviting the audience to participate in her imaginative retelling of the stories of the Black trans community. Each interaction rewrites the story, meaning that no single experience is ever the same.

At Sónar+D, we’ve invited her to deliver a ‘playformance’, with the audience participating as Danielle weaves one of her narratives in real-time. Expect an engrossing, engaging experience that invites you to relive queer experiences and unpack colonial narratives.

You’ll like this if you like…

Interactive performances, choose-your-own-adventure books, independent video games, queer narratives, post-colonial perspectives
