Sónar+D 2022: Decentralising the festivalThe first full post-pandemic edition of Sónar+D saw the full realisation of many of the innovations of the past two years. Not least, a further erasing of the borders between genres and formats, influenced perhaps by an understanding of the need to connect ideas to audiences. Key to this transformation, Sónar+D expanded across the entire Sónar by Day venue with a dedicated stage for audio-visual experimentation and performance-lectures in Stage+D. The multipurpose space with retractable 270 degree screens hosts installations and shows with a high conceptual and technological component by artists such as Sougwen Chung, JASSS, Liam Young and Mario Klingemann. In the SonarComplex auditorium, musical artists at the cutting edge of sound and performance are given space to open new paths in expression. The dedicated talks program, taking place across a number of stages and forums, shone with debates on the future of AI (Kate Crawford). surveillance capitalism (Trevor Pagan), Creative coding (Andreas Refsgaard) and much more besides.
