Born on the anniversary of Portugal’s ‘Carnation Revolution’, Sónia Tropicos was always destined to be a free spirit.
Starting out as a multi-disciplinary artist - she painted and worked with ceramics and textiles - she dove into music after taking free Ableton courses with Beats by Girlz, a Lisbon initiative designed to encourage diversity in the local music scene. Both her own productions and her sets have a wild, uncontainable energy: you’ll hear everything from Portuguese fado and Angolan kuduro to baile funk and gqom remixes.
Experimental yet immediate, this is the sound of tradition and futurism meeting in downtown Lisbon, with all the contrasting, chaotic energy that implies. Don’t miss one of Lisbon’s brightest new talents at Sónar 2026.
