As Evicshen, sound artist, composer and instrument maker Victoria Shen explores the physicality of sound. Abrasive and confrontational, her work is part of a long lineage of noise performers who challenge the boundaries between audience and performer. If you’ve seen her perform before, you’ll know that all the room is a stage, as she circulates freely throughout the crowd, drawing them into her chaotic, visceral performances. 

What sets her apart is her use of home-made instruments and gadgets, which she stacks onto a classic ‘noise table’. Whether playing records using needles attached to her nails (a concept that apparently inspired Beyoncé) or attaching violin strings to her leg, these contraptions often act as an extension of her own body, which is at the centre of her work.

By nature, all her shows are site-specific, but the opportunity to see in the spectacular setting of Llotja de Mar is one that shouldn’t be missed.
