Intel·ligència Romàntica, the title of Ani in the Hall’s latest EP, also acts as a neat summary of the elements that compose Catalan duo’s music. Reshaping tradition with simple modern tools, their ritualistic songs are embellished with artificial textures.
Based around the expressive voice of Aina Serena, they contrast the magical and theatrical with the grotesque and the absurd. Lyrics - entirely in Catalan - distort and mutate traditional fairytales and folk songs, set to percussion driven music that is equally inspired by American minimalism and Mediterranean polyphonic traditions.
Experimental in approach, but defiantly pop in their outlook, at Sónar 2026 they’ll debut their brand-new live show, which emphasises simplicity, delicacy, and the resurgent power of tradition.
