The artist leading the charge for speed garage sits down for a live interview with Resident Advisor Editor Gabriel Szatan

We’re bringing the revered RA Exchange interview series to Sónar+D this year, with a live conversation between the Manchester artist Interplanetary Criminal and Resident Advisor Editor Gabriel Szatan. Now approaching 800 episodes, the RA Exchange is where the most important names in electronic music - from forgotten pioneers and acclaimed legends to modern innovators - sit down to talk about their craft, tell their stories, and share perspectives on the current state of dance music and club culture.

You could say that UK garage is going through a revival right now, but it might be more accurate to say that it never really went away. Interplanetary Criminal has been at the forefront of UK garage’s latest evolution, whether teaming up with Eliza Rose to score the genre’s biggest crossover hit since the early 2000s, acting as a global ambassador (he played both weekends of Coachella this year) or helping keep the grassroots scene alive through collaborations with up-and-coming producers, radio shows, and events and all-nighters throughout the UK. Best of all, he’s doing all this while injecting an essential dose of tongue-in-cheek humour - that’ll be familiar to anyone who’s ever spent time in his hometown of Manchester or anywhere in Northwest England - and a much-needed sense of fun back into dance music.

At Sónar+D 2025, he’ll sit down for a conversation with one of the most respected music journalists around, RA Editor Gabriel Szatan, to talk about how UK garage got to where it is today, how to make a UK No.1 hit, and how he carries the energy of Northwest England with him wherever he goes.
