There are few names that are as consistent as Glitterbox when it comes to high-quality, hedonistic dance music. This year the legendary party series - started in Ibiza by house label Defected Records - lands at a revamped SonarHall with a 4-hour takeover on Saturday. At the forefront will be the brand’s music director, esteemed DJ and radio presenter Melvo Baptiste, who’s also the man behind SonarMix 083.
To mark the event, Melvo’s delivered 60 minutes “designed for the dancefloor”, full of “uplifiting energy that spans 50 years of dance music”. His combination of classic and contemporary house and disco covers all the bases, including an eagerly-awaited official release of Not Without Friends’ era-defining bootleg remix of Spiller & Sophie Ellis-Bextor’s ‘Groovejet’.
As Melvo says, “Ultimately, Glitterbox isn’t just a sound… it’s a feeling”.
