22 tracks in just 60 minutes, delivered at a ferocious rhythm and pace: this is your introduction to Dj Fucci, one of the hottest artists from the Mexican electronic underground. SonarMix 032 gives “an idea of what we’re going to experience on the 13th, 14th, and 15th of June at Sónar 2024 in Barcelona”, as the artist himself says out loud at the start of the mix. "I hope you enjoy it,” he adds, “it's full of energy, speed and a lot of Latin flavour".

This welcome message is heard over Maōh's ‘Xhaché’, a first track that introduces us (with a bang) to Dj Fucci’s hybrid and playful approach to club music. It’s a formula that he’s refined over the past 12 years, most recently in association with pioneering Mexican collective and label NAAFI,  whose artists have appeared regularly at Sónar in recent years. He’s poised to break out in 2024, having been selected by DJMag and Radio One for their ‘Ones To Watch’ series, which broadcasts in January.

This mix was recorded in “an underground rave in Querétaro”, a state in his native Mexico. Pitched up from the very start (it opens at 145bpm), it also showcases his agile musical selection. Samples of traditional music - WOST’s ‘YAMILET MI AMOR’ - are shoulder-to-shoulder with breakbeat, rave-tinged basslines and even dark drops on No Light’s remix of Lyo Xs’ ‘Reintegracíon’. Plus there’s acid - Olmatri’s ‘Costeño’, latin vocal samples - DJ Rankin's ‘The Fiesta’ includes the infamous line from Hinojosa & Zambrano’s ‘Suave’, and trance at 150bpm and rising - his own track ‘Freseo’, produced with CRRDR. It all points to a wild session at Sónar by Day in June.

As the man himself says: “This is just a taste of what the Sónar audience can expect to hear. Get ready for a lot of spicy seasoning in your ears, a lot of rhythm in your feet and a lot of warmth in your hearts".
