Creative Coding Barcelona is a community that explores the creative possibilities of code and technology. Founded with the aim of sharing knowledge, sparking inspiration, and encouraging multidisciplinary collaborations, the collective is open to everyone, regardless of experience with code or technical background. Their informal gatherings and meet-ups - organised periodically throughout the year - provide a space to showcase projects, discuss topics and connect with likeminded people.
At Sónar+D they’re hosting a session under the name Performance as code, bringing together two artists who are perfect examples of this practice: Anna Carreras and Sól Ey. The work of both is founded on real-time behaviour of systems and the idea of live performance as an unrepeatable experience, where every line of code and each gesture creates art in constant transformation.
Anna Carreras is a generative artist and creative coder. Her practice revolves around the use of algorithms to create visual works that explore universal ideas, trigger memory, and open spaces for reflection and dialogue. She builds each piece from the ground up, writing her own code to produce images that could not exist in any other medium. Her work is driven by an interest in how complexity can emerge from simple rules and behaviours, a lens which she uses to investigate the tension between order and chaos, a delicate balance that occurs in both natural systems and everyday life.
Sól Ey is a composer, performer, and new media artist from Iceland. She performs live, creates interactive installations, and designs instruments that combine sound, space, movement, light, and the human body. She often works with sensors and new technologies, and her work emphasises immersion, participation, and social interaction. Her current artistic research focuses on the possibilities of the human body when extended with electronics or objects.
