Few names mean more to drum’n’bass and jungle than Metalheadz, and at Sónar 2026 we’ve got two of the label’s most storied artists playing together.
Goldie, of course, founded the label together with Kemistry & Storm back in 1994, before releasing Timeless in 1995. An instant classic, packed with futuristic sound design, musicality, and concrete-shaded soul, it took drum’n’bass to new critical and commercial heights. Beyond that, it established the gold-toothed, larger-than-life b-boy who wrote it as the face of the genre, a role which he’s continued to occupy gracefully over the past three decades.
If Doc Scott’s career has been quieter - no engagements to Björk or appearances in James Bond films - then he’s been no less critical to the evolution of the genre. One of the first jungle DJs, he was a regular at Metalheadz’ legendary Sunday night sessions at the Blue Note in Hoxton Square. He also shares the honour of being the first artist to release on the label (with Goldie, of course): ‘VIP Drumz’ was the A-side to ‘Ghosts Of My Life’.
Joining them on stage is the leading voice from a new generation of MCs, Medic. Already a regular at Metalheadz events, the London-raised, Bristol-based mic man brings influences from grime, South London soundsystem culture and hip hop to the stage.
In short, if you’re at all interested in drum’n’bass or jungle, then don’t miss this one.
