In the last five years, no musical movement has left a bigger mark on global club culture than latincore. The fusion of latin rhythms with hard-hitting electronic music isn’t necessarily new (just listen to tribal house or the sly salsa rhythms that infiltrated 90s techno), but the volume and diversity of artists splicing elements of guaracha, reggaeton and cumbia with techno, electro, trance and house is.
As co-founder of London Latinx queer party 2C Perrea, Venezualan DJ and performer Tedesco is leading this new wave of artists. In their sets, the hypnotic and driving sound of Western techno meets the sounds of Caracas’ street soundsystems, Puerto Rican and Dominican beach raves, and Brazilian block parties. Sticky bass and choppy breaks make space alongside the accelerated dembow rhythms of neoperreo; thumping gabber kicks and rave klaxons slot in next to chopped-up vocal samples and fragments of salsa and merengue. The vibe is part week-long carnival, part weekend-long warehouse rave.
Intense, seductive, dark and hedonistic, this will be a set for those who like to completely lose themselves on the dancefloor.
