Amsterdam-based multi-instrumentalist Arp Frique uses the old to make something new. Obsessed with vintage analogue synth sounds, the cosmic of Parliament-Funkadelic, and the gospel-inspired soul of Stevie Wonder and Isaac Hayes, he recycles all of these influences to create his own music.
His latest venture Arp Frique & The Perpetual Singers echoes the expansive lineups of 70s funk troupes, an extended family band which features legendary singer Rocq-E Harrell (who’s worked with everyone from Earth Wind & Fire to Diana Ross). Organic, psychedelic, groovy and extremely uplifting, their latest record for famed Amsterdam label Rush Hour was inspired by the birth of Arp’s daughter, and even features a rare vocal turn from British dub legend Dennis Bovell, doing his best George Clinton impression.
So if you’re in need of a transcendental musical experience this year, make a date with Arp and his group of cosmic gospelfunkateers at Sónar 2026.
