Active since 2006, Bristolian artist Addison Groove deserves to be recognised as one of UK dance music’s greats. Moving between dubstep and bass music, techno, jungle and UK hardcore, footwork and juke, he’s scored releases on just about every legendary UK club label you can think of, from Tempa (as Headhunter) and Gutterfunk, to Hessle Audio and Tectonic.
His most famous release, of course, came out on another Bristol label, Loefah’s Swamp 81. It’s hard to overstate the impact that ‘Footcrab’ had when it dropped in 2010: you couldn’t go out in the UK without hearing it that year. Serving as UK club culture’s introduction to the stuttering rhythms and chopped-up vocal samples of Chicago footwork, it was written as a bridge track between dubstep’s 130bpm trudge to the 160bpm Spinn and Rashad tracks he was obsessing over.
That story encapsulates his shapeshifting style as both a DJ and producer: eternally looking for ways to connect the music he loves, from lush electro and euphoric hardcore to fast-paced juke and low-end heavy bass music. Expect a masterclass in joining the dots between all these genres and more at Sónar 2026.
