Maria Latina is a sonic explorer. It only takes 5 minutes of SonarMix 068 to realise that she’s looking to transport you to another dimension. The Colombian selector, now based in Madrid, spends 70 minutes demonstrating her passion for house music of all kinds, also taking in early acid cuts, mellow dub and pitched-down 90s techno.
Already pushing 130bpm from the start, she opens with Deep Space Organisms ‘Solar Rhythms’, already hinting at her particular personal taste for intimate house music. Although packed with “a bunch of fresh tracks, riding the waves”, she doesn’t forget to let the mix breathe, with plenty of “smooth dubby moments, ideal for chilling out”, like Elias’ ‘Dub Soda’ and Tibi Dabo’s ‘A Go Go Go’. She completes the equation with “a few all-time faves to keep it emotional”, for a trip full of “some ups, some downs, and a whole lotta feeling”.
Best to think of this SonarMix as “a snapshot of what I’ve been feeling lately”, she adds. More than that, it’s her letter of introduction for her debut at Sónar, mark it in your calendar already: Saturday 14th June, Sónar by Day. “Hope it takes you somewhere. Enjoy!”
