The UK rave rulebreakers make their long-awaited Sónar debut

Ever since they gatecrashed the UK rave scene in 1991 with Charly and Everybody In The PlaceThe Prodigy have refused to play by the rules.

Formed in Braintree, Essex in 1990 by producer and keyboardist Liam Howlett, they took their name from the Moog synthesiser that Howlett used to write some of their early demos.  Their first releases placed them at the forefront of the UK rave scene, but by their second album, Music for the Jilted Generation, they were fusing breakbeat with punk and industrial. This willingness to experiment and incorporate other styles - especially from guitar-based music - has been a constant throughout their career. Beloved by critics and fans alike, they’re one of dance music’s biggest acts, and a true unifier: just try and find someone who doesn’t like The Prodigy.

Their reputation has been cemented by explosive, cathartic live shows. More of a band than a typical electronic live act, they’re a force of nature on stage, with core duo Liam Howlett and frontman Maxim supported by a rotating cast of musicians, plus plenty of visual pyrotechnics. Simply put, their debut at Sónar is well overdue, and we can’t wait to host them this year.
