Ever wanted to have superpowers? To be able to see, hear, and feel more than your human senses allow? Icelandic transdisciplinary artist Sól Ey works on the premise that all of us are essentially cyborgs, using DIY electronics, sensors and home-made wearable instruments to extend our bodies and choreograph our behaviour.
Drawing on her experience working across performance, interactive installations and instrument design, this workshop will ask how the objects we already wear on our bodies and the tech we’re already using can become extensions of our bodies.
Starting with an introduction to Sól’s own wearable instruments and interactive pieces - participants will be invited to try them out - the workshop will be a collective, hands-on experiment that looks at how everyday items can be used to alter the way we perceive both ourselves and the world around us.
By the end of the workshop, you might have invented a new limb, a new object, or simply a new way of understanding the technologies already attached to you.
No previous experience is required: all that’s needed is curiosity and an open mind, but participants are encouraged to bring small everyday objects from home.
