Trance is having a moment right now, and Funk Tribu is one of the reasons why. The Colombian artist scored a huge hit in 2021 with the fluorescent melodies of Phonky Tribu, and since then he’s been on a tear. Inspired by the hypercolour palette of 90s and 2000s dance music, he’s one of the most prolific producers around. Since that first hit in 2021, he's released his debut album Against All Odds, plus flurry of EPs and singles.
Born in Bogota, but now based in Berlin, the young producer’s creative process is simple: he sits down in front of the keyboard and starts playing around until he finds a melody he likes. This uncomplicated approach lends his tracks an intimate, emotional feel. Even when they’re booming out of a giant club soundsystem, you feel like you could be sitting next to him in his bedroom.
His debut at Sónar promises to be a euphoric affair, a technicolour rush of 2000s era rave and trance just on the right side of nostalgia. In other words, the perfect soundtrack for dancing until the sun comes up.
