Inspired by the playful colours of UK Bass, the Berlin artist has developed her own distinctive queer, modern sound

Berlin-based artist DJ AYA didn’t find her inspiration in the city's techno scene, but instead the cheeky grooves of UK bass music: everything from dubstep and grime to UK funky and future garage.

Today she blends those influences - which came from a formative period spent living in London - with the kind of bright, trance-y, and genre-fluid styles that Live From Earth have helped usher into Berlin nightlife. Running ‘music-centric lesbian bar’ and occasional club night (lip) service, she’s brought a vital dose of freshness to Berlin’s queer scene, and even started to add a little four-to-the-floor punch to her playful, bouncy sound.

Fresh off the release of her debut single, a salacious, tongue-in-cheek dance pop anthem named Good Boy, she’s ready to make her joyful debut at Sónar next June.
