A pioneering electronic composer and visual artist
Ryoji Ikeda is not an audiovisual artist: he is both an electronic composer and a visual artist. His work is stark and distinctive, using minimalist aesthetics and mathematical precision to create immersive installations and absorbing, imaginative sound art. He has composed a drone symphony for 100 cars and another piece for 100 cymbals, and his work has taken him to some of the world’s most renowned museums and concert halls. His last appearance at Sónar was ten years ago, with his ‘supercodex’ project. In 2023, he returns to Barcelona with a new live show based on his album ‘ultratonics’, released on NOTON in December.
