The names behind the 40ft screens

You might not recognise the names Weirdcore and Black Box Echo, but you won’t forget their work at Sónar 2023.

London-based visual artist Weirdcore, has been collaborating with Richard D. James - aka Sónar 2023 headliner Aphex Twin for nearly a decade - as well as providing visuals for the likes of M.I.A., Oneohtrix Point Never, Slikback, and even Miley Cyrus. His glitchy, hyperreal and chaotic style - full of pop culture references and eye-catching colours - has helped define the aesthetic of a whole generation of artists.

Zak Norman, aka Black Box Echo, is the visual artist and stage designer who helped create BICEP’s astonishing, overwhelming live show, which comes to SonarClub this year. He’s also worked with the likes of Squarepusher and Sub Focus, when he’s not busy creating his own installations or collaborating with other visual artists.

These two visionary minds - whose names are often overlooked, even if their work isn’t -will offer an insight into their creative processes and how you go about putting together an audiovisual mega production in 2023.
