So far in our breakdown of Sónar's 2019 line up, we've focused on those artists pointing the way to the future of Urban, Dance, and the experimental artists pushing the limits of Music in general. But there's also another scene, happening right under our noses, comprised of local artists who have broken into the Spanish mainstream entirely under their own merit. These are the rappers, producers and singers taking risks with beats and rhymes and creating the the blueprint for the scene of tomorrow.
From Sónar's home town of Barcelona, rapper Cecilio G, with a new album just around the corner is planning something special for SonarXS on Sat 20th July, while digital dancehall diva Bad Gyal, recently signed to Interscope Records, will showcase brand new tracks and her unforgettable moves at SonarVillage on the same day to a hometown crowd. Meanwhile at Sónar by Night three of the producers responsible for the biggest trap hits of the past year, will take their turn in the spotlight: Fake Guido, Enry-K and $kyhook.
Coming from further afield, and representing the rude health of the underground scene across the peninsula, enigmatic Andalucian rapper Dellafuente will present his new LP at SonarDôme presented by Red Bull on Friday 19th, while Madrid based superproducer Dano Ziontifik will perform his "istmo" show on the same stage on Saturday.
Elsewhere, expect breakthrough performances from Ibiza's Aleesha (whose Peligrosa is the hit of the summer) and the young Cantabrian singer Deva, who is following close behind.
Regardless of genre, all these artists are proof that the Spanish scene is as healthy as it's ever been and point the way to the Future of the Underground at Sónar 2019.
