What does it mean to be advanced? Sónar 2019 presents a number of artists who are themselves answers to the question. Musicians, producers and performers who attack from fringes of technology, of sound design, of gender, politics and culture to collectively push the conversation around music forward. This year, like no other, Sónar presents those artists who are defining the future of music on their own terms, from the experimental performance based art of Arca to the AI experiments of Holly Herndon passing through the diaspora sounds of Sevdaliza or Petite Noir.
