Today sees the launch of SonarMix, a new series of recordings from artists who represent Sónar’s ethos of forward-thinking approaches to music and creativity, both inside and outside of the club. The first episodes will focus on artists who’ll perform in Barcelona this June.
Poté recorded
SonarMix 001 fresh off his appearance at
Sónar Lisboa - “...one of my all time favourite sets,” he gushes. For the
first mix in this new series, “I really wanted to give a similar energy to what I felt there, but with a few twists and turns, and some exclusives too,” he adds.
The Paris-based producer and DJ, born on the Caribbean island of St. Lucia and partially raised in London, brings a little bit of everywhere he’s lived to the dancefloor. SonarMix 001 opens with Nigerian percussionist
Babatunde Olatunji’s stirring ‘Jin-go-lo-ba’, before Poté weaves his way through a dense forest of rhythms and percussion, taking in
slippery
UK club tracks, ballroom-influenced
French house and Brazilian electroclash/baile funk agitators
Bondo Do Rolê. He manages to slip in some of his own work too - the uplifting and graceful swoon of
‘Natives’.
The
experience of playing Sónar Lisboa and Istanbul earlier this year, plus his
current tour opening for Ninja Tune labelmate Bonobo (who joins him at Sónar this year) has reminded him of the joy of performing in public again. “The energy you get from people live on stage is extremely humbling.”
For those planning to catch him at
Sónar by Night on Friday 17th June, he has one message: “Come to share a memory, that’s what I always intend to do. Share a moment together that’s full of love and energy.”
