Sónar's relationship with Barcelona's Grec Festival adds another chapter with the closing concert of Sónar 2019 by The Matthew Herbert Brexit Big Band on Sunday 21st July in the spectacular Teatre Grec amphitheatre.
Wherein previous years the space in Montjuïc has hosted shows by Ryuichi Sakamoto and Alva Noto (closing of the 2018 edition) or the great Spectra lighting installation by Ryoji Ikeda (in 2010), in both presented by Sónar, this 2019, all eyes will be on the new project by the consistently brilliant British musician Matthew Herbert, another artist very close to the festival’s history.
On this occasion, the project is The Matthew Herbert Brexit Big Band, a new constantly mutating orchestra which will perform the songs from "The State Between Us", a conceptual album that revolves around the exit of the United Kingdom from the European Union and in which up to a thousand musicians from different countries of the continent have participated. In addition to the Big Band, Herbert will also be supported on stage by the Cor Pilot de l'ESMUC (Escola Superior de Música de Catalunya) formed by 50 choristers.
Featuring powerful political content and much artistry, the concert will be an unmissable close to this edition of Sonar in one of the most emblematic spaces in the city.
