Whilst rooted in club styles, Alexis Chan’s music as Soda Plains has a musical language entirely of his own. His multifaceted releases defy simple classification, moving seamlessly between different genres and moods, as on his latest EP ‘Living with Elvis’. Taking the percussive turn of his split release with Slikback for PAN’s 12” club series as starting point, he adds a little harmony and even autobiographical confessionals to the mix. At Sónar 2023, he’ll play a live set that pulls these apparently disparate ideas together.
