The voice is what hits you first. Perera Elsewhere’s experimental pop music incorporates rattling sub-bass, doom-laden folk and shimmering effects, but it’s her smoky voice that provides the anchor to her sound. It lends her songs an ethereal, haunting presence - comparisons could be drawn with Laurie Anderson’s vocal manipulations and Zola Jesus’ apocalyptic torch songs - as can be heard throughout her most recent album ‘Home’. At Sónar she’ll perform a live full-band AV show featuring visuals inspired by Hugo Holger Schneider, a longtime artistic companion.
