As head of research at Harmonai, CJ Carr has been exploring the application of stable diffusion - that’s the technology behind prompt-based AI image generators like DALL·E - to music. So basically he’s trying to work out how we can make ‘gamelan-gabber’ a thing, just by feeding those words into an AI. Beyond that he’s one half of dadabots, a pair of music-hackers (and metal freaks) who’ve been bringing neural network technology to music like “Prometheus brought fire to man”, creating generative black metal, mathcore, free jazz, and breakcore. At Sónar 2023 he’ll draw on these years of experience to offer a Masterclass session explaining how to use AI technology to create music.
