In a world of near universal access to music production software, where literally any sound imaginable can be created, it’s still rare to find a producer with the skills to channel that potential into a coherent creative vision. Munich based artist Skee Mask is one such talent. Inspired by forward thinking labels of the past (think Chain Reaction or Warp Records) as well as the sonic possibilities of modern technology, his releases to date, 2018’s Compro or 2021’s expansive, mindblowing Pool), as well as his shepherding of his own Ilian Tape label and his high energy dj sets, all mark him out as a worthy custodian of the spirit of underground dance music.
