Caribbean roots, London soul, Parisian style
If Poté’s music sounds well travelled, it’s because it is. Born on the Caribbean island of St. Lucia, he moved to London with his family at the age of 12, before settling in his current home of Paris in 2019. There’s echoes of all of those places in his own productions - the insistent pulse of Caribbean steel drum and marimba rhythms, the homesick street-soul of London, the restrained yet vibrant sound of Parisian life - and others too. A relationship with Lisbon-based Angolan-Portuguese label Enchufada helped him link the house and techno he’d connected with in London with his own roots, and support from worldly benefactors like Bonobo and Damon Albarn (who sings on a track on his new record), helped him refine his own music further. At Sónar 2022, he’ll connect the dots between the various points in his musical life, for a percussive and soulful DJ set.
