Bonobo’s quiet rise to global stardom echoes the form of his own music - relaxed, effortless. Since his debut in 1999 for the cult Brighton label Tru Thoughts, Simon Jones has slowly and gracefully evolved from trip-hop and broken-beat into something altogether more expansive, folding in influences from across the globe whilst collaborating with luminaries ranging from Erykah Badu to Ólafur Arnalds. The result is transportative music with a truly universal aesthetic: as at home on the dancefloor as it is comfortable in an armchair. In January 2022, he’ll release Fragments, his sixth album for Coldcut’s Ninja Tune imprint. While every Bonobo record is a gradual upgrade on what came before, this one feels unique: more emotional, more intense, more personal. We can’t wait to experience it live at Sónar 2022.
