A exclusive audiovisual premiere across 3 days
When Silvia Jiménez left Spain to seek inspiration in the experimental currents of the European avant-garde, she probably didn’t imagine that her JASSS alias would become one of the most important names in club music away from the dancefloor. After spending time in Amsterdam, the producer and DJ settled in Berlin, where she hosted a monthly radio show which she called “A World of Service”. In November 2021, she revived the name for her second LP, her debut for the prestigious Ostgut Ton label.
Ben Kreukniet is an artist and creative director who works in visual art, music and architecture. He creates installations that combine spatial design, sound, light and technology, with the aim of revealing structures and processes that shape the human experience. Through his work as an immersion researcher, he explores the creation of feedback loops between audiences and performers, seeking to establish new connections between sound, image and collective experience in live performances.
As part of Sónar+D at Sónar 2022, a presentation of A World of Service by JASSS & Ben Kreukniet will close Stage+D on each of the three days. The audiovisual performance is a transformation of JASSS's album of the same name. Sound and visual ensembles navigate between natural and synthetic states and collide with the echoes of the original LP. Using 3D scanning techniques to create the visuals, this collaborative performance show recycles the present, creating a rapid trajectory through bodies and environments that act as a projection of our ideals and value systems. Familiar objects and spaces are deconstructed and re-transcribed, representing the subjectivity of our own perception and demonstrating that we shape the environment just as the environment shapes us.
