Today Resident Advisor and Sónar unveil the full lineup for SonarLab by Resident Advisor at Sónar by Night, including a new addition, live techno-not-techno duo Giant Swan.
Across both Friday and Saturday night, Resident Advisor will present 14 DJ sets and live performances that show how the music we dance to at night is more diverse and varied than ever. From sundown to sunrise, it will be the venue to explore the full spectrum of club music in 2022.
Seasoned, versatile selectors like Avalon Emerson, Batu, and Midland b2b Shanti Celeste know how to find the pulse of the dancefloor and amplify it, while fans of darker shades of dance music won’t want to miss Helena Hauff and Skee Mask in more intimate confines. Elsewhere, Conducta and Critical Soundsystem will fly the flag for two enduring, interlinked and unique musical cultures, in UK Garage and drum’n’bass. They’re joined by their compatriot, UK drill’s leading star Headie One, who’ll deliver a fiery live sermon drawing from his album ‘Edna’.
For those in search of more fluorescent thrills, Tiga & Hudson Mohawke’s new project Love Minus Zero will provide a jolt of high-octane, technicolour energy. Founder of iconic Brooklyn party GHE20GOTH1K, Venus X’s sets are just as vivid: she rebuilds club music from the foundations up, pulling from both mainstream and avant-garde. From a different angle, Barcelona’s MBODJ challenges preconceived notions of what a ‘techno’ set should sound like: slower tempos, denser rhythms, and unfamiliar textures. Andalusia’s GAZZI is another Spanish artist who toys with genre: he mixes shimmering electronica and 90s breakbeat with homemade dembow edits and pitch-shifted reggaeton. Finally, Giant Swan and Nihiloxica are two of the most potent live acts around today, the former relying on raw energy, while the latter fill the stage and air with the sound of live percussion.
