If the Ross from Friends moniker was an attempt by Felix Clary Weatherall to avoid celebrity, well we're afraid the joke's on him. Since emerging in 2013 as one of the bedroom producers loosely grouped together as 'lo-fi house', his series of assured releases on labels such as Breaker Breaker and Lobster Theremin have catapulted him to the forefront of the scene and into the spotlight.
This year's 'Family Portrait' (released through Flying Lotus' Brainfeeder label), is, as the title suggests, a deeply personal but also universal project; bringing together elements of funk, pop, house, jungle, garage, soul and techno into a delightful whole that rewards repeated listening. It comes on the heels of his Aphelion EP (also released on Brainfeeder), four tracks of open minded warm electronica that show a producer aware of the past - in particular the 90's heyday of dance music - but fixated on where the form can go from here. In short, his Sónar performance will be the perfect time to catch RFF, before he acscends to David Schwimmer level fame.
