That Deena Abdelwahed has emerged as a festival favourite in recent years should come as no surprise. As a DJ and producer, her re-casting of the sounds of her native Tunisia into tracky, percussive techno come across as one of the most excitingly original propositions in recent years. 2018 has revealed a new facet to this artist in the form of her first LP Khonnar, released on the influential label In Finé to universal acclaim at the end of last year. Building on the percussive, pitch shifted techno of her dj sets, this record of original productions add in a more human element in the form of arabic chants and soaring vocals - along with a healthy dose of rave stabs and earth shaking bass.

The record will form the basis of her live show - her first at Sónar following a dj set at Sónar by Day in 2017 - and one of the unmissable performances at the Resident Advisor SonarLab at Sónar by Night.

 Deena Abdelwahed is also one of the 64 faces of We Are Europe, the co-operative program of 8 festival-forums co-funded by the Creative Europe program of the European Union.
