'NO FLYERS NO POSTERS, 25 years of Sónar Image': An immersive exhibition of the festival's visual history

From May 24th to June 23rd, co-inciding with Sónar's 25th anniversary, the Centre d'Art Tecla Sala in Barcelona's L'Hospitalet will host a re-interpretation of the main themes in the festivals campaigns over the last quarter century

With 70 iconic artworks, spread out over 10 rooms, the exhibition takes the form of a massive interactive installation, re-visiting some of the festival images' main themes and bringing the spectator fully into the world of Sergio Caballero: Co-director of Sónar and creator of its visual image since the beginning. Among the facinations and obsessions re-visited in the exhibition are: Family, still life, celebrity, the value of art, surrealism, irony and caustic wit, transcience and journeys and the allure of cold and frozen landscapes. These themes combine to create a universe by turns fantastical and supernatural, raw and morbid, or simply moving.

Deliberately avoiding the use of flyers, posters or traditional media, this mixed media exhibition employs video, installations, sculpture, photography and archive material to evoke, warp and question the spectators memory of events. Taking the form of a large scale installation, the exhibition features the famous ghosts of Finistarrae (2010), the Telekinetic Twins (2000), Maradona (2002), and the families of the festival organisers (1997), among other iconic characters.

'NO FLYERS NO POSTERS' is also a gift for fans and fetishists of Sónar history; those who wait anxiously for the image year after year will come face to face with sculptures, clothes, models, photography and assorted miscellanea from 25 years of Sónar campaigns

Curated by Amelie Aranguren. Entrance to the exhibition is free.

Three guided visits of the exhibition will also take place, each hosted by a different character from the festival's visual history. Limited places, reserve yours sending an email to [email protected]
