DESPACIO – the soundsystem from James Murphy and 2manydjs - and the new show from Alva Noto and Ryuichi Sakamoto add the finishing touches to the 25th anniversary of Sónar


Among the 50 new names added to the program are: Demdike Stare, SOPHIE, Yaeji, IAMDDB, Miss Kittin & Kim Ann Foxman, Alizzz, Liberato and Young Marco, with 2manydjs also playing the final dj set at Sónar by Day.

DESPACIO is back!

Following the huge success of their first Sónar outing, the extraordinary DESPACIO club experience returns to Sónar by Day, with James Murphy (LCD Soundsystem) and the brothers, David and Stephen Dewaele (2manydjs). Together they will deliver high fidelity sound -with a spectacular soundsystem formed by 7 towers of circularly arranged speakers and amplifiers- at its maximum level with 3 x 6hr dj sets, playing vinyl only, where music, the audience and sound will take precedence over superstar DJ egos.

Closing the festival in style

Alva Noto & Ryuichi Sakamoto will preside over the festival's Closing Night; Sunday, June 17 at the Teatre Grec, presenting a brand new extraordinary show entitled "Two", consisting of specially created music for the occasion as well as leaving room for improvisation. Their concert at Sónar will offer a rare opportunity to witness both artists perform in Europe this year.

Cutting edge technology, innovation and the latest generation of club music

A new wave of remarkable international artists are included in Sónar's program: Demdike Stare, with an AV show alongside visual artist Michael England; the emerging DJ, singer and producer of Korean origin, Yaeji; the new star of UK urban music, IAMDDB; Scandinavian duo Ratkje & Barruk, presenting their exclusive show "Avant Joik"; avant-garde Norwegian creator Jenny Hval; and the enigmatic Neapolitan artist Liberato, whose anonymous persona has become a mass phenomenon in Italy.

Other highlights include reputed artists Objekt, Young Marco and Call Super, playing dj sets; the b2b formed by electronica legend Miss Kittin and Kim Ann Foxman, a key figure of New York's house and techno scene; and 2manydjs, who will play the always special closing set on Saturday at Sónar by Day.

Spanish scene: premieres, new sounds ​​and style in abundance

Sónar 2018 once again aims to showcase the most interesting artists from the national scene, with the performances from producer Alizzz, who will play a DJ set before Diplo; Pina + Gnomalab, presenting his new and powerful work with an industrial aesthetic; Olde Gods, also presenting their new album, "Gitanes"; artists rethinking beatmaking and electronic music such as Blastto, Pedro Ladroga and Absolute Terror; Steve Lean, an essential producer in the new urban and national trap sound; the inimitable Lory Money, an MC of Senegalese origin with more than 12 million Youtube views; and high quality DJs including Angel Molina, Ivana Ray Singh, DJ2D2 and Alicia Carrera, among many others.

Emerging talent from all corners of the globe at SonarDôme

Meanwhile, Red Bull Music Academy completes its program for the SonarDôme stage, adding SOPHIE, Rainforest Spiritual Enslavement (Dominick Fernow x Philippe Hallais x Silent Servant); Malaysian artist The Venopian Solitude; the talented duos formed by Stingray x Mumdance and Suzanne Kraft x Jonny Nash; Spains' Álex Silva (NL / Melody As Truth); another exciting Spanish pairing, Clip x Cora Novoa, and French DJ and producer Chloé, among others.
