Sónar by Night - SonarPub by Thunder Bitch
"I always wanted my live shows to be like a long story that comes in and out of songs." This is how Jennifer Lee - better known throughout the world as TOKiMONSTA - talks about her new AV Live performance. A show that goes beyond the simple conjunction of music and images, and that the producer from Los Angeles will show in Sonar for the first time outside of America. The through line of the show will probably be centered on the pieces of her latest album to date,"Lune Rouge", released last year, in which her love for genres as diverse as r&b, experimental electronics, hip hop, new classical music or Japanese K-pop are brought to the fore. We also know that she’ll be accompanied by one of her past contributors, but we don't know which one: Kool Keith? Andreya Triana? Jesse Boykins III? Anderson. Paak? We'll find out live on Saturday night at SonarPub.
We met TOKiMONSTA earlier this decade as part of the Brainfeeder family, in the early years of the Flying Lotus label, and also through her releases on platforms such as All City and Ramp Recordings. Always in constant movement and without fear of mutating the beats of her synthetic and dreamy sound, in 2014 she founded her own label, Young Art Records, in which she has published her latest works. His most recent album was written while she was recovering from a rare neurological disorder that temporarily prevented her from speaking and hearing sounds. All of which makes these new songs and her visit to Sónar cause for double celebration.
