The brainchild of Dominik Fernow (also known as Vatican Shadow), Rainforest Spiritual Enslavement distorts nature sounds inspired by the landscape of Papua New Guinea into the dark and ritualistic realms of ambient music. Part magic, part mysticism, RSE debuted in 2011 with a series of cassettes released by Fernow's label Hospital Productions which were remastered in 2017 as the cassette box Water Witches. Also in 2017, the project released the album Ambient Black Magic with features from Silent Servant and Substance. Melding together the natural and the artificial, the album creates the soundscape of an imaginary world both foreboding and intriguing. At Sonar Barcelona, RSE will be joined by Low Jack, the Paris based DJ and electronic music composer and Silent Servant, the American techno DJ and producer.
