Sónar by Night - SonarLab - Resident Advisor
A pair of aces will close Saturday night at SonarLab to dancing feet and wide smiles. Germany's Danilo Plessow, better known as Motor City Drum Ensemble, will perform alongside France's Jeremy Underground: a b2b that guarantees maximum quality and enjoyment for the final set of Sónar 2018. Both share similar musical tastes, artistic careers and top flight selector status. They are revered by thousands of fans and are booked to play at the main clubs and events the world over. We can expect to hear house, funk, soul, disco, techno and Brazilian music gems from any era and origin; but even knowing this and having followed them very closely, there is always likely to be a blank canvas for improvisation and surprising turns.
Plessow's alias has as much to do with its proximity to Stuttgart's car factories (his place of birth), as his love for techno and house from Detroit, the Motor city. He has released dozens of EPs for labels such as Compost, 20:20 Vision or his own label, MCDE (on which he released the famous "Raw Cuts" series). He has remixed Caribou, Gilles Peterson, DJ Sprinkles and Midland, as well as headlining sets for DJ Kicks, Resident Advisor and the latest Selectors series. Meanwhile, Parisian Jeremy Underground (real name: Jérémy Fichon) has turned his love for Chicago and New York house music into the foundation for his label My Love Is Underground, also the title of his first compilation, which brought him international recognition. More recently he released another album, "Jeremy Underground Presents Beauty", replete with rarities that only a crate digger like him can discover and revitalise, while at the same time continuing to evolve and establish himself as one of the most versatile and important DJs on the house-funk circuit.
