Sónar by Day - SonarVillage by Estrella Damm
Maribou State will perform at SonarVillage to present their first album, "Portraits", released on Counter Records, a subsidiary of the inexhaustible Ninja Tune label. In several interviews with specialized music press, Chris Davids and Liam Ivory acknowledged feeling sentimentally attached to Hertfordshire, the county in the southeast of England where they have developed as artists. In order to present their excellent debut album in all its splendour, the English duo will be accompanied on stage by a band of musicians. The duo's first album arrives after remixing stars such as Lana Del Rey, Kelis and Fatboy Slim, revealing their passion for harmony, emotive instrumentation and the full-bodied rhythms with which they make soundscapes, sometimes austere but always rich in textures. Maribou State voluntarily admit to having a certain taste for retro, mixing cinematic hip hop, soul, funk and country folk, adding a new twist to a trip hop sound for the 21st century. In record shop racks the album could easily find itself alongside the likes of Portishead.
