Infectious funk, with a hip hop heart

Released in March 2017, "At What Cost", confirmed GoldLink as one of the most gifted hip hop artists in the increasingly crowded North American scene. Similar in some ways to Oddisee (also present at this year's Sónar) the Washington MC has won over the masses without the need for flashy posturing or high profile adlibs, relying solely on his talent, flow and a natural instinct to rap over seductive funk flavoured hip hop bases (some of them created by Kaytranada). It is therefore no surprise that he has made the leap to a multinational label and received a Grammy nomination for best rap performance, for the hit "Crew". His Sónar concert will be his debut in Spain and the perfect opportunity to see him in full evolution and artistic development.

If Kaytranada provides a suitable reference to understand his sound, another key name in his career would be the Soulection collective, represented at Sónar 2018 by Joe Kay, for who he released his first official mixtape, "And After That, We Did not Talk." A year earlier, in 2015, Anthony DeCarlos became better known as GoldLink and gave us the first indications of his potential through another self-edited mixtape, "The God Complex". In the United States his name is already established at the front line of young MCs (he is only 24 years old), and will soon be held in the same regard across Europe. By the time he arrives at Sónar his reputation may well have grown even further, so we wholeheartedly recommend not missing this show.
