Mad Decent / US
Over the last decade Diplo has grown into a bonafide dance music superstar, and did not want to miss out on Sónar's 25th Anniversary. As befitting his status and experience the American will take control of one the prime time sets at Sónar by Night. Diplo's sessions are much more than a simple dj set: the Mad Decent boss always delivers a spectacular show in all senses, both in terms of stage design and of course, the music. His ability to pinpoint new emerging music and successfully translate new sounds into the mainstream is second to none. He has continuously adapted to public tastes and trends, at times inventing them, thanks to his work as producer and remixer. He is the man behind numerous indisputable hits including "Where Are Ü Now", by Jack Ü (with Skrillex and Justin Bieber), "Paper Planes", by M.I.A. and "Pon de Floor" by Major Lazer, among many others. Diplo's career in fact mirrors the different phases that mainstream dance music has passed through in recent years, from discovering Brazilian baile funk and ghetto rhythms from around the world, to the explosion of American dubstep adjoining EDM and the transformation of Jamaican dancehall into a central sound of 21st century pop. The founder of Mad Decent, tour companion to Skrillex, producer and collaborator for the likes of Santigold, Madonna, MIA, Bruno Mars, Robyn and Beyoncé, leader of Major Lazer, and master of the mash-up in his early years ... Diplo is at the same time a music connoisseur and collector who always seems to have the Midas touch.
